WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 104)

Leader: They look to you to give them their food in due season;

PEOPLE: when you give to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.

Leader: When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

PEOPLE: When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.

Leader: May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works--

PEOPLE: who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke.

Leader: I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;

PEOPLE: I will sing praise to my God while I have being.

Leader: my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD.

PEOPLE: Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!

INVOCATION

God of Power and might, who inspired a rag-tag group of Apostles on that first day of Pentecost, fill us with your Spirit on this day; that like them we may depart our own Upper Rooms refreshed and rekindled for a mission of faith and hope to the world. In the name of the resurrected Christ we pray. Amen

**OPENING HYMN              “Here I am Lord”                                              Blue #525

CALL TO CONFESSION

Try as we might, we never seem to rise to the promise of the Love that our God sends us. Let us confess together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, like bones in the desert our faith becomes dried up and lifeless. The winds of false doctrines sear our spirits; the heat of conflict saps our strength. We wander in search of direction. Have mercy upon us and fill us anew with your Spirit. Give us guidance and counsel and forgive our waywardness.

(moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Friends, even death could not silence the message of love and grace brought to us in the life of Jesus. By the grace of God and the Love of Jesus, we are forgiven Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - (Apostles Creed, Traditional)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE            “How Great Thou Art”                                            Blue #467

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Guide us, O God, by your Word, and Holy Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find freedom, and in your will discover peace; through Christ our Lord.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Almighty God, you speak and the heavens tremble; you move and leaves of the trees shiver with delight. The babble of waters on their course to the sea attest to your wisdom and plan for creation. We are in awe of the wisdom you continually give us, how you fill us with the Holy Spirit who offers counsel and healing. Guide now our movements and the course of our actions. May we care for others as you care for us, and may our days be full of witness to your overwhelming goodness in Christ, even as we ask for special consideration for those we name here:

Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, let us pray together as our redeemer taught us, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

It is right to share our abundance with those who have less or need more. May what we offer here help to be the answer of the prayers of others in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Gracious God, accept our gifts that they may be used wisely in your service for those who hunger, or thirst, or merely seek a greater understanding of your love. This we gratefully pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
