PRELUDE “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 112)

112:1 Praise the LORD! Happy are those who fear the LORD, who greatly delight in his commandments. PEOPLE: Their descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Leader: Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. PEOPLE: They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright; they are gracious, merciful, and righteous. Leader: It is well with those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice. PEOPLE: For the righteous will never be moved; they will be remembered forever.

INVOCATION

Creator God, open our hearts in compassion and receive these petitions on behalf of the needs of the church and the world. You call us to love and serve you and our sisters and brothers with hearts, minds and spirits. This we pray in Jesus name, Amen.

**OPENING HYMN “Praise my Soul, the King of Heaven” Red #26

CALL TO CONFESSION

We try, but we always seem to come short of your expectations, Dear Lord. Let us confess our sins together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, you heal the brokenhearted; save us from sin when we inflict pain upon our neighbors. We seek revenge on those who hurt us; others we judge as inferior or unworthy of our respect and support. Give us the compassion of Jesus, upon all who were afflicted, and forgive us O god, when our hearts are hardened against neighbors in need. (a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Sisters and brothers, let us lift our hearts in faith to the one who hears all prayers and holds close all those in need. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” Red #213

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

O Lord, your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Give us grace to receive your truth in faith and love, and strength to follow on the path you set before us; through Jesus Christ, Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**APOSTLES CREED (Adapted by John Redman)

I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was born of a young peasant woman, trained as a carpenter, and baptized by His cousin John. He taught many, He healed many, and He angered many. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He defeated death and He offers us grace and love in the name of God the Father Almighty; from that time through all time to come. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit; the universal Church of Christ; the Communion of sharing our gifts with others; the forgiveness of our sins; the Grace of God’s love, and that each soul may have life everlasting. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

We can hoard the gifts with which you bless us, God of generosity, or we can share them with others. May what we offer in these moments be the very blessing, the very hope, the very peace others need. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

OFFERTORY “The Gift of Love”

**DOXOLOGY (Traditional)

PRAYER OF THANKS

Lord God, we thank you for these gifts. As we follow in faith, may we find ways to honor you by giving of our treasure, our time and our talents to glorify you and our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

CLOSING HYMN “Give to the Winds Thy Fears” Red #618

RESPONSIVE BENEDICTION:

Leader: May the strength of God sustain us;

PEOPLE: May the power of God preserve us;

Leader: May the hands of God protect us; may the way of God direct us;

PEOPLE: May the love of God go with us this day and forever. Amen.
