WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 89)

Leader: I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever.

PEOPLE: With my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.

Leader: Your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

PEOPLE: Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, for who in the skies can be compared to the Lord?

Leader: Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord?

PEOPLE: Great and awesome above all that are around him is the Lord.

Leader: The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours.

PEOPLE: You have founded them Lord, the world and all that is in it.

INVOCATION

Lord, you bring the dawn of each new day; we praise your name in the promise of changing seasons. You scatter the clouds of darkness so our eyes can see the truth of your love. Through Jesus, you replace the finality of death with an affirmation of life without end as we worship in his name. Amen.

**OPENING HYMN              “How Lovely, Lord, How Lovely”                            Red # 333

CALL TO CONFESSION

Our complicated lives are shadowed by transgressions that we may not even be aware of. Let us come together. In prayer

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Lord, we are incomplete beings searching far and wide to be made whole. Though we try as hard as we might, we will never find completeness in the worldly things we acquire to fill the void. Fill our hearts with the peace that goes beyond all understanding. Call to us, that we may come to you with repentant hearts. Help all to see that your kingdom has come near and that it is You, and only You, whom we’ve been searching for all along.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Hear the genuine Good News of the Gospels and know that through God’s infinite love we are always forgiven. In his name, Amen.

**GLORIA PATRI                  (Avery & Marsh, back cover of the Red Hymnal)

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH –  APOSTLES CREED (As adapted by John Redman)

I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was born of a young peasant woman, trained as a carpenter, and baptized by His cousin John. He taught many, He healed many, and He angered many. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He defeated death and He offers us grace and love in the name of God the Father Almighty; from that time through all time to come. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit; the universal Church of Christ; the Communion of sharing our gifts with others; the forgiveness of our sins; the Grace of God’s love, and that each soul may have life everlasting. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE           “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken”                             Red #694

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Prepare our hearts, O God, to accept you Word. Silence in us any voices but your own, so that we may hear your Word and also do it; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
