(Based on Psalm 46)                 John Coates, Organ

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 106)

LEADER: Praise the Lord!

PEOPLE: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

LEADER: Who can utter the mighty doings of the Lord, or declare all his praise?

PEOPLE: Happy are those who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times.

LEADER: Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people; help me when you deliver them;

PEOPLE: that I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory in your heritage.

INVOCATION

We thank you, Lord God, for all you have given us. Join with us as we come here

today to praise and worship.

**OPENING HYMN      “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come”                  Red #381

CALL TO CONFESSION

When we confess our sins, we do so knowing that our God is loving and will hear us without anger. Bring your sins to the Lord, and you will feel relieved.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Lord, we come to you humbled, knowing that we have not lived according to your will. We are quick to anger and slow to love. We are more concerned with our wealth and our status than we are with the well-being of our communities. We know that everything we have turns to dust, yet we try to accumulate more. Help us to find the strength to let go of our obsessions. Help us to love our neighbors. Help us to find the peace of your love, a love that forgives all wrongs.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

There is a great truth: Christ died so that we all may have eternal life. Hear this good news and believe!

**GLORIA PATRI          “Glory Be to The Father”                                     Red #807

**HYMN OF PRAISE   “How Firm a Foundation”                                     Red #612

*PASSING OF THE PEACE

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Heidelberg Catechism)

I am not my own, but belong— body and soul, in life and in death— to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

God of all knowledge send your Spirit to carry your word into our hearts and minds so that we might learn to live with love for you and others.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
