ORDER OF WORSHIP

SEPTEMBER 28TH, 2025 10:30 AM

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

**Kindly stand if you are able

PRELUDE                                                                                                  John Coates

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 91)

LEADER: You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust."

PEOPLE: You will not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that flies by day, or the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that wastes at noonday

LEADER: Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name.

PEOPLE: When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.

LEADER and PEOPLE: With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.

INVOCATION

Dear God we come together today in your house to worship your creation. Help us to see your vision for the world and live according to that vision. Amen.

**OPENING HYMN                   “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”                    Red #43

CALL TO CONFESSION

All the wealth in the world is not worth the scraps under the table if it does not lead to

salvation. Christ Jesus, let us all find redemption in you and your love.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

We know you are the path to eternal joy, but it is often difficult to live according

to your teachings. Dear Lord, we ask for your forgiveness when we choose

comfort over charity, when we act in pursuit of our glory rather than the glory of

your kingdom, when we pursue trinkets rather than trust in your word. Help us,

we pray, to choose to help rather than choose to be comfortable.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

The world is full of bad tidings, but know this, at the end of every path there is the

salvation of Jesus Christ. No matter how lost, we are all granted forgiveness and

salvation.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN OF PRAISE                  “Faith of Our Fathers”                                  Red #692

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

We see the will of God through the evidence of his creation. The word of God is

written for us to understand that will.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE CHURCH

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their

own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who

taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS:

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
