ORDER OF WORSHIP
OCTOBER 5TH, 2025 10:30 AM
SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
COMMUNION SUNDAY
**Kindly stand if you are able
PRELUDE John Coates
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 137)
LEADER: By the rivers of Babylon - there we sat down and there we wept when we
remembered Zion.
PEOPLE: For there our captors asked us for songs, and our tormentors asked
for mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"
LEADER: How could we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land? If I forget you, O
Jerusalem, let my right hand wither!
PEOPLE: Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember you,
if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy.
INVOCATION
We gather together in this place because we have faith that our lives and our
community can be more righteous and just. Lord, join with us here, today. Amen.
**OPENING HYMN “Great is Thy Faithfulness” Red #60
CALL TO CONFESSION
We are all equal in need in the eyes of God. We are all equal in ability to do God’s will.
We are all equally sinners asking for God’s forgiveness.
PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING
Lord, we ask you over and over for help, but we often do not use what you have
already given us. We wait to find the perfect time and the perfect place rather
than using the gifts you have given us to solve problems here and now. We are
too often worried about what we do not have and we do not see the glory of
creation around us. Forgive us for what we feel unable to do even though the
need is all around us.
(A moment for silent personal confession)
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
There is no competition for salvation with Jesus. We need only the faith of a mustard
seed and we will be saved. God’s love is for everyone.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
We see the will of God through the evidence of his creation. The word of God is written for us to understand that will.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE CHURCH
And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their
own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who
taught us to pray, saying:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE
**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (adapted from the Nicene Creed)
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all
things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light,
begotten, not made. Through him all things were made. For us and for our
salvation he came down from heaven; and was made human. He was crucified
for us; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again. He ascended to
heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with
glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.
OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS:
Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
OFFERTORY “Hope of the World” Red #434
**PRAYER OF THANKS
We thank you, our Lord for those gifts to us that we send to you for your work and ours
in congregation, community, and culture. Guide us in good use as we ask in Jesus’
name. Amen
