WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP                                                          (Psalm 66: 1, 2, 5, 8, 20)

LEADER: Let all the earth acclaim God. Sing to the glory of his name. Come and see what God has done, let the sound of his praise be heard. Blessed is God who has not withdrawn from us his love and care.

INVOCATION

God of love, light a flame of love in our hearts to you,

a flame of love to our families and friends,

a flame of love to our neighbors,

a flame of love to our enemies.

Son of the loveliest Mary,

light a flame of love in our hearts to all,

from the lowliest thing that lives,

to the Name that is highest of all.

**OPENING HYMN                   “Jesus Calls Us o’er the Tumult          “                  Red #580

CALL TO CONFESSION                                                  (Romans 5:8, Hebrews 4:16)

The proof of God’s amazing love is this: While we were sinners Christ died for us. Because we have faith in him, we dare to approach God with confidence.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Holy and merciful God, in your presence we confess our failure to be what you created us to be. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from your waves, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your Love.

By your loving mercy, help us to live in your light and abide in your ways, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Savior.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

The almighty and merciful Lord grant you pardon and remission of all your sins, time for amendment of life, and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

**GLORIA PATRI                      Avery & Marsh (Back of the Red hymnal)

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH                                                      (Ephesians 4:4-6, NIV)

There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called to one hope, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

**HYMN OF PRAISE                “O Jesus, I Have Promised”                         Red #648

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scripture is read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear  with joy what you say to us today. Amen.

SERMON MESSAGE       “Contributing to the Common Good”      Pastor Duncan Nichol

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE, THE CHURCH AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
