PEOPLE: May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!

INVOCATION

Holy Father, your gracious gift in Christ moves us to gather in worship. Stir our hearts once again with your Spirit, that we may find renewed energy to sing your praises and do your work, for our own needs and those of others. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

**OPENING HYMN              “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”

CALL TO CONFESSION

In our struggles with family, work, play, and life in general, we often forget the most important things in our lives, dear Lord. Let us come before you in confession.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, hear our confession, for we still dwell in darkness. We are afflicted by our own inadequacy, and when perplexed, we despair that there may be no hope. When difficulties strike us, we feel forsaken. But we know that Christ resides like a treasure within us. Transform our whole beings to live in that truth.

(moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Children of God, as we are all your children, we thank you our heavenly parent for your continuing care and forgiveness, in the name of Jesus, we are forgiven. Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - (from the Athanasian Creed of the Sixth Century)

We worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity; neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the Essence. For there is one Person of the Father; another of the Son; and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one; the Glory equal, the Majesty coeternal. Such as the Father is; such is the Son; and such is the Holy Ghost. The Father infinite; the Son infinite; and the Holy Ghost infinite. The Father eternal; the Son eternal; and the Holy Ghost eternal. And yet they are not three eternals; but one eternal. Amen

**HYMN OF PRAISE            “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!”           Red #2

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Gracious Lord, like Nicodemus, we come to the word with many questions. Like the Pharisees, we can be captivated by correctness, intent on right answers. As we turn to your word, Spirit of God, do not let our desire for information dominate our need for transformation. Let us hear the word and be moved to greater faith and obedience. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, let us pray together as our redeemer taught us, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

It is right to share our abundance with those who have less or need more. May what we offer here help to be the answer of the prayers of others in the name of Jesus, Amen.
