 - H. Percy Smith                              John Coates, Organ

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from the Book of Common Worship)

LEADER and PEOPLE: Almighty God, you built your church upon the

foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the

cornerstone. Join us together by their teaching, so that we may be a holy temple in whom your Spirit dwells; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

LEADER: Amen.

INVOCATION

We ask for your presence today, Lord of Love. Join with us today as we offer our

worship and praise. Help us to find comfort and peace as we glorify your name.

**OPENING HYMN      “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come”                  Red #381

CALL TO CONFESSION

Sin and grace are always linked. We confess our sins so that we can receive the

grace of God’s forgiveness.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Lord, we come to you knowing that your grace will cleanse us of all our sins. We thank you for your faith in us, even as we fall short of your teachings. We hope to repay your faith with our own faith in you and your blessings. Help us to see your divine presence in ourselves and in all of your children. Lead us towards a world free from hatred and violence. Teach us how to love and to be loved.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

The Lord will have mercy upon us. The Lord will heal and forgive us. The Lord will set us free to life eternally.

**GLORIA PATRI                    Avery & Marsh (Back of the Red hymnal)

**HYMN OF PRAISE             “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy”      Red #486

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Lord, we ask for your Spirit to join us here to help us understand and feel your word so that we might live more closely aligned with your Son, Jesus.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
