PRELUDE                 “Praise Our God Above”                                   Mary Lee Farris, Piano

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 138)

Leader: I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;

PEOPLE: On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul.

Leader: All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth.

PEOPLE: They shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.

Leader: For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he perceives from far away.

PEOPLE: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies; you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me.

INVOCATION

Creator God, we marvel in awe of the expansiveness of your creation.

Your margins of diversity are boundless, and for that, we thank you.

Each of our beloved siblings are beautifully and wonderfully made, all in Your image.

Teach us to love people, just as they are, and embrace their identity fully, as you have embraced us.  Amen.

**OPENING HYMN              “I Love to Tell the Story”                         Red #498

CALL TO CONFESSION

We sometimes see our God as a distant figure, other times as a close friend. Know that our Lord can be everything to everyone as we look for understanding and we come together in Prayer.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty and all-merciful God, we confess to you our tendency to hold our image of you as an intimate friend, and to forget your role as sovereign of the universe. Forgive us we pray and fill us with an appropriate sense of awe and wonder at your power and creative majesty. As we draw nearer to you in understanding, let us worship and try to know you for who you are, not for what we may want you to be. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

(moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

From the abundance of God’s own righteousness, and infinite love and understanding we are forgiven, in the name of Christ our Savior, Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - APOSTLES CREED (as adapted by John Redman)

I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was born of a young peasant woman, trained as a carpenter, and baptized by His cousin John. He taught many, He healed many, and He angered many. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He defeated death and He offers us grace and love in the name of God the Father Almighty; from that time through all time to come. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit; the universal Church of Christ; the Communion of sharing our gifts with others; the forgiveness of our sins; the Grace of God’s love, and that each soul may have life everlasting. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE                      “O Breath of Life”                                      Red #299

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Draw us close, Holy Spirit, as the Scriptures are read and the Word is proclaimed. Let the word of faith be on our lips and in our hearts, and let all other words slip away. May there be one voice we hear today — the voice of truth and grace. Amen

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, let us pray together as our redeemer taught us, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

It is right to share our abundance with those who have less or need more. May what we offer here help to be the answer of the prayers of others in the name of Jesus, Amen.
