WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from The Book of Common Worship)

LEADER: Almighty God, we pray for your blessing on the church in this place.

PEOPLE: Here may the faithful find salvation, and the careless be awakened.

LEADER: Here may the doubting find faith, and the anxious be encouraged.

PEOPLE: Here may the tempted find help, and the sorrowful comfort.

LEADER: Here may the weary find rest, and the strong be renewed.

PEOPLE: Here may the aged find consolation and the young be inspired;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

INVOCATION

Great God, you have been generous and marvelously kind. Give us such wonder, love, and gratitude that we may sing praises to you and joyfully honor your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

**OPENING HYMN                “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”               Red #20

CALL TO CONFESSION

The proof of God’s amazing love is this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Because we have faith in him, we dare to approach God with confidence. Let us confess our sin before God and one another.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love. We have not loved our neighbors, and we have refused to hear the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

As it says in Psalms, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”

**GLORIA PATRI                    “Glory Be to the Father”                            Red #806

**HYMN OF PRAISE            “Come, Thou Font of Every Blessing”      Red #45

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

God of Wisdom, we hear your word in order to understand your will. Let us listen to the Word of the Lord and let the words fill our hearts and minds.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
