Leader: In you, O LORD, I take refuge;

PEOPLE: Let me never be put to shame.

Leader: In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;

PEOPLE: incline your ear to me and save me.

Leader: Be to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me,

PEOPLE: For you are my rock and my fortress.

Leader: For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O LORD, from my youth.

PEOPLE: From my birth I have leaned upon you. My praise is continually of you

INVOCATION

Creator God, open our hearts in compassion and receive our petitions on behalf of the needs of the church and the world. You call us to love and serve you and our sisters and brothers with hearts, minds and spirits. This we pray in Jesus name, Amen.

**OPENING HYMN              “Take My Life and Let it Be Consecrated”                      Red #568

CALL TO CONFESSION

We have been given the care of a fragile earth and sea but we have neglected it, using it for our own selfishness instead of to God’s glory our celebration in it. Let us come together in prayer:

PRAYER OF UNDERSTANDING

Holy God, hear our prayer: For the mending of our hearts, torn apart by our unkindness; For the healing of our souls, wasting away around us; For the courage to choke out our fears. We pray for the courage to admit our fault, The strength to change our ways, and the hope that your grace awaits us. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

The ways of our Lord are many, but they always bring us home to his unending love, grace and forgiveness. Amen

**GLORIA PATRI      (Avery & Marsh, back cover of the Red Hymnal)

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH -- APOSTLES CREED (Traditional)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE           “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”                               Red # 2

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. Make us hungry for this heavenly food, that it may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORDS PRAYER

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
