PRELUDE             “Transfiguration”                                           Wren/Manalo

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 50)

Leader: The mighty one, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

PEOPLE: Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.

Leader: Our God comes and does not keep silence, before him is a devouring fire, and a mighty tempest all around him.

PEOPLE: He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:

Leader: “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”

PEOPLE: The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

INVOCATION

God of promise, your glory blinds us in its brilliant light.  The grace of your son Jesus among us as living flesh inspires us even as he redeems us.  And your Holy Spirit guides us with counsel and might.  Hear our resounding ‘Amen’ to your infinite glory.

**OPENING HYMN     “Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies”      Red #562

CALL TO CONFESSION

As we are each flawed creatures, our failings are sometimes too numerous to count. But our God knows them all and in his endless love still forgives.  Let us confess our sins together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, have mercy upon us, for we burden you with our sins.  We seldom make sacrifices or glorify you as we should, even as we pursue our own glory and resources. Forgive our reluctance to accept our faith, forgive our quest for security over belief, and help direct us onto the pathway of commitment to you. Amen

(moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Believe in the Good News of the Gospels. By the love of God and the Glory of Christ we are forgiven. Amen

**HYMN OF PRAISE “Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above”    Red #50

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles Creed Traditional)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

O Lord, on this Sunday of Transfiguration, we pray that your light would pour over these pages and illumine these old, old words — that they would dance with newness in our hearts and minds, that we would be radiant in reflecting your Word in our living and serving one another. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

May what we offer here be of our own hearts and dedicated to the service of our faith and our mission to others as they become the blessings and hope that others need and pray for in their own lives. This we pray in the name of Jesus.  Amen
