OUTREACH is starting a project to go along with the Union Church photo directory with the hopes to introduce older members to newer ones and vice versa and to serve as a starting point for conversations which go beyond “committee talk”. Richard Smith will be collecting volunteer information from those who wish to participate in sharing a little of who they are. One member or household will be published in the newsletter every other week. Richard has created a short set of standard questions and a unique plan for the order in which members would be chosen! There will be more information to follow, and we look forward to your participation!

FOOD PANTRY: NEXT OPEN Monday, Mar 14 and Wednesday, Mar 16 from 9:30-11:30 am. Serving LOTS of people! If you would like to help, contact Kathy or Debby.

We’re happy to announce that our Union Food Pantry is part of Stop & Shop’s Bloomin' 4 Good program for April. For every $10.99 Bloomin' 4 Good Bouquet sold, $1 is donated to a local hunger organization. The Bloomin' 4 Good Bouquet have a red circle sticker and are sold at Stop & Shop on Route 300, Newburgh. Should you need flowers in April, you can help to support our program!

Leader: When evil men advance against me, when enemies and foes attack me, People: They will stumble and heart will not fear; Leader: Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. People My heart says seek your face Lord. Leader: Do not hide your face from me, Teach me your way Lord; lead me in a straight path.

People: Do not reject me or forsake me

Leader: I am confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living People: The Lord is my light and my salvation; The Lord is my stronghold

Loving Father, thank You for Your grace and love towards us and to all those that are Your children. May we rejoice greatly in you for you are our hope and our joy deserving of out everlasting praise. Open our hearts to you, Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

**OPENING HYMN “In the Cross of Christ I Glory” Red #209

Remember that our Lord Jesus can sympathize with us in our weaknesses, since he was tempted as we. Let us draw near to God with sincerity of heart and full assurance of faith and let our guilty hearts be washed clean. Please join me in the prayer of confession

Eternal God, we are quick with doubt and impatience, and we find it difficult to have faith and trust. We want to believe your promises, but the here-and-now problems of daily life consume our focus and erode our faith. Open our eyes to your light. Open our hearts to your love. Open our minds to your possibilities. Speak to us today, forgive our sins, and strengthen our faith, that we, too, may know the everlasting power of your love. Amen.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

God’s steadfast love has the power to heal our brokenness, calm our fears, and make us whole. There is always forgiveness and healing with God. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE “Great is thy Faithfulness” Red #60

In this second Sunday in Lent we ask, Lord: to live in the beauty of your Word and to be transformed by its wisdom and wonder. Send your Spirit that we might abide within your presence and live in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives. Amen.

SERMON Worry 101 (Gen. Ed) Ruling Elder Mary Whidden

Gracious God, Keep in our hearts all whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, and as we join in prayer as Jesus taught us:

Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.

OFFERTORY “Thy Holy wings, dear Savior, Spread Gently Over Me” Swedish hymn melody

Faithful God, you have kept your promises to us. We try to give witness to your abundant blessings. May we faithfully keep our promises to you. Strengthen our commitment to live as true disciples of Jesus Christ. Take these gifts as signs of our promise to give ourselves completely, to live without fear; to trust your love without reservation. Amen

HYMN OF PARTING “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” Red # 561

Go in the love of God, whose promises are never broken. We go in the light of Christ, whose love transforms us. Go in the power of the Holy Spirit, who sustains and encourages us. We go now into the world as witnesses of God’s love, light, and power. Amen.
