PRELUDE Choral Prelude on “Nicaea” By Healy Willan

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 8) Leader: O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. PEOPLE: Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger. Leader: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; PEOPLE: what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Leader: You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet, PEOPLE: all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. Leader: O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

INVOCATION

Great Sprit God, who never leaves us helpless or hopeless for long, inspire us with your life-giving divine presence. Like those first disciples, may we be moved from being mere followers of Christ to becoming true apostles of his message in mission for our world. In his name we pray, Amen.

**OPENING HYMN “Come, Now Almighty King” Red #5

CALL TO CONFESSION

Help fill us with a sense of God’s saving presence, that our daily lives may reflect our rebirth from heaven above and help lead others to our God. Let us confess together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Most blessed God, we confess that we often turn our faith into a fixed set of creeds and confessions, easily uttered but far removed from life. Forgive us, we pray. Help us to see such doctrines not as objective statements of truth about a far-off reality, but as a declaration of our intimacy with you and Christ by the works of your Spirit. In Jesus name we pray. (A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

The mysteries of the Trinity sometimes evade our understanding, but God’s forgiveness is always understood and welcomed. In the name of Jesus, we are forgiven.

**GLORIA PATRI Avery & Marsh (Back of the Red hymnal)

**HYMN OF PRAISE “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!” Red #2

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Athanasian Creed)

We worship one God in trinity and the Trinity in unity, neither confusing the persons nor dividing the divine being.

For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Spirit is still another.

But the deity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one, equal in glory, coeternal in majesty.

What the Father is, the Son is, and so is the Holy Spirit.

The Father is infinite; the Son is infinite; the Holy Spirit is infinite.

Eternal is the Father; eternal is the Son; eternal is the Spirit: And yet there are not three eternal beings, but one who is eternal; as there are not three uncreated and unlimited beings, but one who is uncreated and unlimited.

And in this Trinity, no one is before or after, greater or less than the other; but all three persons are in themselves, coeternal and coequal; and so we must worship the Trinity in unity and the one God in three persons.

For as the rational soul and body are one person, so the one Christ is God and man. He suffered death for our salvation. He descended into hell and rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

At his coming all people shall rise bodily to give an account of their own deeds.

Those who have done good will enter eternal life, those who have done evil will enter eternal fire.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Gracious God, as we turn to your Word for us, may the Spirit of God rest upon us. Help us to be steadfast in our hearing, in our speaking, in our believing, and in our living. Amen.

SERMON Poured Into Our Hearts John Redman, CRE

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.

PRAYER OF THANKS

We thank you, our Lord for those gifts to us that we send to you for your work and ours in congregation, community, and culture. Guide us in good use as we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
