PRELUDE Variations on a Sunday School Tune by Dale Wood

CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 19)

Leader: The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. PEOPLE: Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. Leader: There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; PEOPLE: yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun, Leader: which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy, and like a strong man runs its course with joy. PEOPLE: the fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. ALL: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

INVOCATION

We gather in your sight Dear Lord, to proclaim our devotion to your will and our happiness at the endless love and grace you bestow upon us. As we hear the good news of the Gospel, may we take it into our lives with new awareness and dedication. This we pray in the name of our Savior, Amen.

**OPENING HYMN Stand Up and Bless the Lord Blue #491

CALL TO CONFESSION

Our sometimes-feeble attempts to follow in faith show our shortcomings, but we know a merciful God who always forgives us. Please join me in our confessions together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Dearest Lord, in these dark times we often stumble in the darkness, seeking the light of your comfort. But the light is always there before us, even as we look up to its inspiring flame. Grant us the peace to know our shortcomings even as you forgive them. And may we continue to look to the light of your perfect love in these dark days even as we know you will deliver us brighter days to come. Amen.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Friends in faith, believe in the grace of Scripture and the love of God, by whose infinite presence our sins are forgiven. Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Nicene Creed, condensed)

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

HYMN OF PRAISE The Heavens Above Declare God’s Praise Blue #166

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE

Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, as we pray as Jesus taught us:

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.
