WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 138)

Leader: I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise; PEOPLE: On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul. Leader: All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth. PEOPLE: They shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD. Leader: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies; you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me. PEOPLE: LORD, your love is eternal; complete the work that you have begun.

INVOCATION

Creator God, open our hearts in compassion and receive these petitions on behalf of the needs of the church and the world. You call us to love and serve you and our sisters and brothers with hearts, minds, and spirits. This we pray in Jesus name, Amen.

**OPENING HYMN “Here I am, Lord” BLUE #525

CALL TO CONFESSION

We appear to be strong, but we know in our hearts that we are weak and vulnerable. We put on a brave face that hides our fears and frustrations. And despite our best intentions we often fail. Let us confess our sins together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, you heal the brokenhearted; save us from sin when we inflict pain upon our neighbors. We seek revenge on those who hurt us; others we judge as inferior or unworthy of our respect and support. Give us the compassion of Jesus, upon all who were afflicted, and forgive us O god, when our hearts are hardened against neighbors in need. (a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENES

By the Good News of the Gospel, and the unending love of God, we are forgiven. Amen.

**GLORIA PATRI

**HYMN OF PRAISE “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” RED # 2

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. Make us hungry for this heavenly food, that it may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen
