WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 17)
Leader: Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry; give ear to my prayer from lips free of
deceit.
PEOPLE: From you let my vindication come; let your eyes see the right.
Leader: If you try my heart, if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me;
PEOPLE: As for what others do, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the
violent.
Leader: My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.
PEOPLE: I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me, hear my words.
Leader: Wondrously show your steadfast love, O savior of those who seek refuge from their
adversaries.
PEOPLE: As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake I shall be
satisfied. Praise the Lord!
INVOCATION
We are in awe of your magnificent power displayed through the entire universe, for through you all things were made, and all things have their being. Lord, may we know the presence of the Holy Spirit here with us today. May we be open to your leading, sensitive to your speaking and alert to your calling. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
**OPENING HYMN: “Love Divine, all Loves Excelling” Red # 558
CALL TO CONFESSION
We try, but we always seem to come short of your expectations, Dear Lord. Let us confess our sins together.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, you love us, but we do not love you fully. You call, but we do not always listen.
We often walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped in our own concerns. God of grace, help us to admit our sin, so that as you move toward us in mercy, we may repent, turn to you, and receive forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.
(a moment for silent personal confession)
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Our God knows us and loves us as a parent; in the same manner he forgives us. Amen
**HYMN OF PRAISE: “We Come as Guests Invited” Red # 784
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth.
Make us hungry for this heavenly food, that it may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life;
through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen.
