ORDER OF WORSHIP
PRELUDE Be Thou My Vision played by Joseph Bush
on the Union Church Organ
CALL TO WORSHIP Adapted from Psalm 15
Leader: My heart overflows with a goodly theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe. PEOPLE: Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. Your royal scepter is a scepter of equity; LEADER: you love righteousness and hate wickedness.
PEOPLE: Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions; Leader: your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia.
PEOPLE: From ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad.
INVOCATION
Gracious God, welcome us into your house that we may come closer to you as we seek to follow in the footsteps of Jesus as we ask you to guide us on our way, and help us in bringing others to meet you in the name of Jesus, Amen.
CALL TO CONFESSION
Our pathways of life are paved with temptation, mistakes, and wrong turns. Help turn us into your pathway, dear God, as we confess our sins together.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of mercy, we confess that we have hopelessly complicated the faith that you have given us in Christ, making rules upon rules that belie the simplicity of your salvation by grace through faith. Forgive us, we pray. Give us the ability and the courage to use the truth, faith, and Word that you have given us against the evil powers that threaten us all.
(A moment for silent personal confession)
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Since the days that Jesus walked with his followers from Galilee to Jerusalem, to our time today, we know that by the grace of Jesus we are forgiven. Amen.

PASSING OF THE PEACE
HYMN OF PRAISE Oh For a Thousand Tongues to Sing
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Gracious God, as we turn to your Word for us, may your spirit rest upon us. Help us to be steadfast in our hearing, in our speaking, in our believing, and in our living Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER
Dearest Lord, even as we lament the divisions that afflict our nation, let us labor to heal them by your example. Let us not forget those in lands of persecution and poverty, especially by us, those who live in peace and plenty. Give to your church a mind quick to sense the needs of all its members; a heart able to feel their pain; and a hand ready to offer help as needed. And we ask for your healing touch on those we name here
Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, and let us join to pray as Jesus taught us, saying:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
OFFERTORY ANTHEM Change My Heart, O God
OFFERING OF TITHES AND GIFTS
Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.
