WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP

LEADER: Almighty God, we pray for your blessing on the church in this place.

PEOPLE: Here may the faithful find salvation, and the careless be awakened.

LEADER: Here may the doubting find faith, and the anxious be encouraged.

PEOPLE: Here may the tempted find help, and the sorrowful comfort.

LEADER: Here may the weary find rest, and the strong be renewed.

PEOPLE: Here may the aged find consolation and the young be inspired;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

INVOCATION

On this blessed Sunday of Pentecost, may the Holy Spirit sent by God come and join us as we worship and praise.

**OPENING HYMN                “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory”            Red #416

CALL TO CONFESSION

We are all sinners and we can all come together to ask God for forgiveness. Listen to us, Lord, as we come to you for understanding.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Merciful God, we come to you knowing that we are sinners. We break apart

when we should bring together. We destroy when we should build up. We turn away from you when we should trust your will. We ask for your strength to help us come closer to you. Help us live as one body in Christ. Help us love instead of fight. Help us accept the gift of your Holy Spirit all of our days.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

We have been promised by Jesus that we are all able to ask for and receive

forgiveness. The Lord will welcome us with open arms if we ask.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Book of Common Worship)

This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved, if we hold it fast: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, and that he appeared first to the women, then to Peter, and to the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the beginning and the end; he is our Lord and our God. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

God of all, bless us with the gift of the Holy Spirit that we might understand your will through the reading of your Word.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

WELCOMING A NEW MEMBER TO THE CONGREGATION

(When asked)

PEOPLE: It is with joy and thanksgiving we welcome you to share with us in the ministry of Christ, for we are all one in him. We all always pray for you and with you. We promise to share the good news of the Gospel with you not only in our words, but in our lives, thereby helping you know and follow Christ. And we ask that you help us to know God as well. Amen and Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
