WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 13)

LEADER: How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

PEOPLE: How long must I bear pain in my soul, and have sorrow in my heart all day long? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

LEADER: Consider and answer me, O LORD my God! Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death

PEOPLE: And my enemy will say, “I have prevailed”; my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.

LEADER: But I trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

PEOPLE: I will sing to the LORD, because he has dealt bountifully with me.

INVOCATION

Lord of all, please send your Spirit here today to join with us as we worship and praise. May we lift our voices in worship today.

**OPENING HYMN                “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”     Red #2

CALL TO CONFESSION

Before we can be forgiven, we need to confess with honest hearts. Let us together

open our hearts and offer our burdens to God.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image; through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

As it says in 1 John, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Mighty Lord, help us to find wisdom in your word. Let your Spirit fill our hearts and

minds, so that we may live according to the teachings of your son Jesus.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
