WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 9)

Leader: The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

PEOPLE: Those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Leader: Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion. Declare his deeds among the peoples.

PEOPLE: For the needy shall not be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.

Leader: Rise up, O LORD! Do not let mortals prevail; let the nations be judged before you.

PEOPLE: Put them in fear, O LORD; let the nations know that they are only human.

INVOCATION

You are great, loving God and deserving of our greatest praise. Your creation attests to your grandeur, your love exceeds comprehension. You fill our sanctuary with the presence of your Holy Spirit; you send your Holy Word Jesus to dwell in our midst as we are surrounded by testimony to your grace and goodness. Amen.

**OPENING HYMN              “Abide with Me”                                                         Red #365

 CALL TO CONFESSION

We all know we are imperfect creatures but perfect sinners. We admit our sins and ask for the understanding that the Lord’s forgiveness brings us time after time, day after day. Let us pray together

PRAYER OF UNDERSTANDING

O God, Christ calls to us. Your spirit empowers us. We seek to do your will as we confess anew our trust in your goodness and wisdom. Continue to mold and fashion us until we can conform to your will for us. Lead us in Christ to be worthy disciples, as filled with your Spirit, we respond to his call. Amen.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

In the name of Christ our Savior, and from the abundance of God’s own infinite love and understanding we are forgiven, Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - APOSTLES CREED (as adapted by John Redman)

I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was born of a young peasant woman, trained as a carpenter, and baptized by His cousin John. He taught many, He healed many, and He angered many. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He defeated death and He offers us grace and love in the name of God the Father Almighty; from that time through all time to come. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit; the universal Church of Christ; the Communion of sharing our gifts with others; the forgiveness of our sins; the Grace of God’s love, and that each soul may have life everlasting. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE                      “Out of the Depths”                                     Red #465

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

God, source of all light, by your Word you give light to the soul. Pour out on us the spirit of wisdom and understanding that our hearts and minds may be opened. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, let us pray together as our redeemer taught us, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

It is right to share our abundance with those who have less or need more. May what we offer here help to be the answer of the prayers of others in the name of Jesus, Amen.
