PRELUDE              “According to Thy Gracious Word” – Gilbert M. Martin                 John Coates

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 32)

LEADER: Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

PEOPLE: Happy are those to whom the LORD imputes no iniquity, and in whose

spirit there is no deceit.

LEADER: Therefore, let all who are faithful offer prayer to you;

PEOPLE: At a time of distress, the rush of mighty waters shall not reach them.

LEADER: Many are the torments of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds those

who trust in the LORD.

PEOPLE: Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you

upright in heart.

INVOCATION

We are one in spirit as with the body of Christ. Lord, bless us here as we come together to worship and praise.

**OPENING HYMN                   “O Love, How Deep, How Broad”                 Red #193

                                                                                                                   Verse 1-4

CALL TO CONFESSION

Confession of sins is central to our Reformed beliefs. John Calvin said public confession is the key that opens the gate to prayer.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Lord, as we enter into this season of Lent, we realize that we are sinners connected to the original sin of mankind. We fall short of your teachings. We

hide our shame and our sins from you. We choose the comforts of the Earth

rather than you. Help us to do better and be better. Help us to follow your will.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Sin was brought into the world by man and it was defeated by the sacrifice of Christ.

We are all forgiven and welcomed into God’s kingdom.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Nicene Creed)

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

The wisdom of the scriptures are for all to partake. Listen and learn God’s will.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE, THE CHURCH & THE LORD’S PRAYER

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their

own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who

taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be

a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
