WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 2)
LEADER: I will tell of the decree of the LORD:
PEOPLE: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have begotten you.
LEADER: Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the
earth your possession.
PEOPLE: You shall break them with a rod of iron, and dash them in pieces like a
Potter’s vessel.”
LEADER: Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
PEOPLE: Serve the LORD with fear. Happy are all who take refuge in him.
INVOCATION
Even though we can find God’s presence everywhere, we come together in this place
because we feel especially close to God. May the Holy Spirit reside with us today.
**OPENING HYMN “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken” Red #694
CALL TO CONFESSION
As we live, we fall short of the commandments of God. Let us confess our sins and
ask for God’s understanding together.
PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING
Lord, we come to you ashamed and with bended knee. We have all we need to live lives of peace and community, but we instead choose to ignore your commands. We hoard rather than share. We divide rather than unite. We injure rather than heal. Worst of all, we turn away from you. Bless us and help us to fulfill your will and bring reconciliation to your world.
(A moment for silent personal confession)
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
We need not worry whether our prayers for forgiveness will be answered. Jesus died
for our sins and his death assures our salvation.

DEACON ORDINATION – Vivian Thain

**PASSING OF THE PEACE
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Nicene Creed)
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Lord, bless the reading of your word and let the wisdom contained fill our hearts and
minds.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE, THE CHURCH & THE LORD’S PRAYER
And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their
own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who
taught us to pray, saying:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be
a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
OFFERTORY ”God in His Love for Us“ Red #385
**DOXOLOGY Avery & Marsh (Back of the Red hymnal)
**PRAYER OF THANKS
We thank you, our Lord for those gifts to us that we send to you for your work and ours
in congregation, community, and culture. Guide us in good use as we ask in Jesus’
name. Amen.
**HYMN OF PARTING “God Be with You” Red #840
BENEDICTION
We pray for the big things and forget to give thanks for the ordinary, small (and yet
really not small) gifts.
