CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 116)

LEADER: I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my supplications.

PEOPLE: Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

LEADER: I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.

PEOPLE: Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful ones.

LEADER: I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice and call on the name of the LORD.

PEOPLE: I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people. Praise the LORD!

INVOCATION

Whether alone or in community, God comes to us when we call. Let the Holy Spirit fill this sanctuary today and bless us with the love of God.

**OPENING HYMN                “The Church’s One Foundation”               Red #689

CALL TO CONFESSION

We confess our sins not to show our inability to live as God commands, but to show that through forgiveness we are saved.

PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

We come to you, Lord, ashamed of our sins and scared to offer them to you. We tell ourselves that we have all we need to deal with the difficulties of the world. We keep to ourselves and focus on our own needs. Help us to find the courage to seek out your care and comfort. Help us to come to you for healing and strength. Help us to carry your word into our communities and heal the wounds there. Bless us with the peace that only you can provide.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Peter said, For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him. All now and forever more are assured salvation.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Declaration of Faith 1977)

We believe in one true and living God. We acknowledge one God alone, whose demands on us are absolute, whose help for us is sufficient. That One is the Lord, whom we worship, serve and love. God is greater than our understanding. We do not fully comprehend who God is or how God works. God’s reality far exceeds all our words can say. The Lord’s requirements are not always what we think is best. The Lord’s care for us is not always what we want. God comes to us on God’s own terms and is able to do far more than we ask or think. To worship God is highest joy. To serve God is perfect freedom.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

The Word of God helps us to live more connected to God and to each other. Listen to the Word and let its wisdom fill our hearts.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. May our gifts be a blessing to those who receive them. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
