CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 36)
Leader: Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. PEOPLE: Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; Leader: How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings. PEOPLE: They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. Leader: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. PEOPLE: O continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation to the upright of heart!
INVOCATION (Adapted from the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)
O Justice, whose word is the sound of the chain being broken and the sight of the captive being released! O Lord, whether we be captor or captive, let your word come among us. Let it dwell within us, that we might burst every chain asunder and cause the captive to cry out for joy! This we pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
**OPENING HYMN Breathe on me Breath of God Red #295
CALL TO CONFESSION
We try and try, and we somehow never try hard enough to fulfill God’s expectations and or sometimes even our own. Let us confess our sins together.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of loving kindness, we confess that we are not always attentive to you word or your will. Forgive us our hardness of hearing and heart; open our ears and our souls to your bidding. Help us to realize in our depths that that all goodness we possess comes from you, and from the example of Christ. In his name we pray, Amen.
(a moment for silent personal confession)
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Sisters and Brothers, we struggle and wrestle with our own shortcomings, but in coming to our God they are forgiven by the grace of Jesus, Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

Living God, help us to hear your holy Word that we may truly understand; that, understanding, we may believe, and, believing, we may follow in faithfulness and obedience, seeking your honor and glory in all that we do; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE & LORD’S PRAYER
Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, as we pray as Jesus taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.
OFFERTORY Psalm Gordon Young

**PRAYER OF THANKS
Gracious God, accept our gifts in tribute, they be put to good and purposeful use in assisting those in greater need even as we seek to serve you and our community and the greater world. This we gratefully pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
