PRELUDE “I Sing a Song of the Saints of God” John Henry Hopkins

(Follow along: Blue #364)

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 98) Leader: O sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. PEOPLE: The LORD has made known his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. Leader: He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. PEOPLE: Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. Leader: Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy PEOPLE: at the presence of the LORD, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

O God, we gaze at creation and behold goodness; we hear your words and discover righteousness. Your love is boundless and your care without limits. We enter our sanctuary to give you honor and glad adoration. Please receive our worship and humble thanksgiving. Amen.

**OPENING HYMN “I Want Jesus to Walk with Me” Red #642

Even as we try to love our neighbors as ourselves, we don’t always measure up to heaven’s standards. But our God is not only loving but merciful. Let us confess together.

God of Compassion, we admit that we have difficulty following even your most simplified law. Teach us by your grace and spirit to love both you and one another more perfectly and more abundantly, to know your love and forgiveness both in this life and in the Kingdom to come. In the blessed name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

By the word of Scripture, the grace of God’s love, and the sheer beauty of the creation around us, we know we are forgiven.

**HYMN OF PRAISE “Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above” Red # 50

Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. Make us hungry for this heavenly food, that it may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven.

OLD TESTAMENT Job 19:23-27 John Safran

GOSPEL Luke 20:27-38

SERMON God of the Living John Redman, CRE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

**APOSTLES CREED (Traditional)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

We can hoard the gifts with which you bless us, God of generosity, or we can share them with others. May what we offer in these moments be the very blessing, the very hope, the very peace others need. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
