ORDER OF WORSHIP

PRELUDE Blessed Assurance Played by Joseph Bush

on the Union Church Piano

CALL TO WORSHIP Based on Psalm 92

Leader: It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night,

to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre and the ringing of bells.

People: The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God.

Leader: In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap, showing that the LORD is upright; my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in God.

ALL: Let us worship our God!

INVOCATION

Ever living God, you have guarded and guided our ancestors so that your Word is still proclaimed. May we, this morning, trust in your presence and allow our hearts to swell with thanksgiving. May we share our joy through praise and song so that all present are connected through your Holy Spirit.

CALL TO CONFESSION

If we confess our sins and bring them unto the Lord, He will forgive us. With honest and humble hearts, let us call to mind the failings that are stored up in us no matter how big or small. Let us pray.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord, I am an incomplete being searching far and wide to be made whole. Though I try as hard as I can, I will never find completeness in the worldly things I acquire to fill the void. Help me to get to know you Lord. Fill my heart with the peace that goes beyond my understanding. Call to me, that I may come to you with a repentant heart. Help me to see that your kingdom has come near and that it is You, and only You, whom I’ve been looking for all along.

(A moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Sisters and Brothers, believe in the Good News of the Gospels. In the name of our Lord, we are forgiven. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER

Lord of our lives, trusting in you we dare to continue in faith as our world begins to open. You are a God who heals minds and spirits as well as bodies. Let us not forget what we have lost but let us also remember what we have learned and gained in the last year. We continue to pray for those who are still suffering especially in places where the vaccine is not available. Those devasted by the collapse of condos in Surfside. Those frightened by storms and lashing trees. Help us be here for each other — acting as your hands and feet in a hurting world.

We celebrate also, with those who are able to travel and connect with those they have missed. Those who celebrate marriages and anniversaries with friends and families. Friends who feel free to venture into new spaces or start new jobs. In all times and places, you are here for us, God, and we are grateful.

United as a family of faith and as the Body of Christ we lift these prayers up to you, God our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Finally, hear us pray the prayer Christ taught us,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OFFERTORY ANTHEM To God Be The Glory Played by Joseph Bush

on the Union Church organ

OFFERING OF TITHES AND GIFTS

Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.

PRAYER OF THANKS

Because we have talents and time to share, we give you thanks Lord. Because we have mercy and kindness to share, we give you thanks. Because we have enough money to share, we give you thanks.
