ABOUT US

We strive to serve God and, through the grace of Jesus Christ, our community.

We believe that we are called to serve and worship God, to preach God's word and to share God's love with each other, both within the community of Union Church and in the wider community.

God's call includes an interior as well as an exterior dimension. We need to foster our own individual spirituality and open our individual relationships with God while developing and using the gifts and talents God has given us. This will allow us to enlarge our strong community of believers who care for and support each other. We are at the same time called individually and as a church community to reach out into the wider community to serve and to spread God's word and love there.

We believe that as a faith community who serves Jesus Christ we are called, as He was, to welcome all people into our congregation who wish to join with s in serving and worshiping Him. Within our congregation, we differ in our responses to issues of tolerance and diversity. We believe that God calls us to continue to struggle with these important issues so that we can create a Christian community that serves all of God's people.

OUR COMMUNITY

We are a diverse community of believers drawn from Newburgh, New York and the surrounding

mid-Hudson Valley region.

OUR HISTORY

Union Presbyterian Church was formed on July 13, 1837. The first church was erected and dedicated on the southwest corner of North Street and Clinton Street on May 1, 1838. After moving into two other churches within the city,  in 1956, the Tudor styled estate of the Aspinall family was purchased and our first service was held on Easter Sunday, April 21, 1957.  Moving the original pipe organ was the first of many changes required to turn the  ballroom of the estate into our sanctuary.

In 1966, the Christian Education building was built and serves as an activity center for youth, adult, and community programs. In 1977, the south wall of the sanctuary and original Tiffany stained glass windows were renovated to serve the expanding membership.

Over our 180 year history, seventeen ministers have provided pastoral care and leadership for many people within and outside the walls of Union Church.
